01. SELECT A DESIGN, LOCATION, AND DATE
Choose the design that you love, a location and date that works with your schedule, and confirm your appointment!
02. IN THE STUDIO
On the day of your appointment, artists will adjust designs, and try out placements. Then it’s time to stencil and tattoo!

03. HEALING & AFTERCARE
No need to buy aftercare supplies — we’ll provide a goodie bag with everything you need, including anti-itch cream, gentle soap, healing reminder instructions, and more.

04. ENJOY YOUR FADE
Depending on your design and body, you can expect your tattoo to start getting lighter and lighter over time. Ephemeral ink is designed to fade and your tattoo timeline will differ from others. A standard fade is between 1-3 years.

You don’t need to make separate appointments if you’re getting a matching tattoo! Just choose your favorite matching set, click the BOOK NOW button on the design's page, choose your Ephemeral Studio and an appointment time that works for both of you, and complete checkout. Keepin’ it simple.
Yes, of course! Get them with a friend or get them both for yourself. In fact, you can get any of the individual designs from the matching set if you’d like, just choose the individual design you prefer before you check out!
Long distance besties, fear not! Book your individual tattoos separately at a studio nearest you to get your matching Ephemerals! We have several studios to choose from—keep close without having to buy a plane ticket!
Payment happens at the end of your tattoo appointment.
If you’re getting your Ephemeral at the same location, at the same time, you can pay together as one party. If you’re getting your Ephemeral separately, you’ll have to pay separately.
We can always go bigger but we can't always go smaller with a tattoo. Each design tells you what sizing will work best for your tattoo. Your artist will work with you in studio to finalize your size but keep in mind we may not be able to go smaller and the cost may be adjusted if you go bigger.
Our flash tattoos start at $50. Each design has different size limitations which can be found in the design details. After you choose your placement in studio, your Ephemeral artist can help determine the best size for the piece.

Custom tattoos start at $175 and can be as customizable as you’d like!
It really depends on your personal pain tolerances and where you are getting tattooed. For most people, arms and legs are typically less painful compared to ribs and more bony (or sensitive) areas like elbows and knees.
Tattooing can often be described as feeling like a scratch and vibration sensation at once. Some can relax into the sensation and fall asleep, while some do better with distraction techniques.
Some tips on making things easier:
- Take ibuprofen before your appointment
- Eat and hydrate before your appointment
- Don’t be afraid to take breaks! When you need a minute to adjust, your artist will always take the time and care you need to stay comfortable throughout your appointment
All Ephemeral tattoos are currently done in black ink. Not only is it the most popular color, it’s preferred by most tattoo artists and looks fantastic with fine line work.
We are developing Ephemeral color ink (hint: 🔴). It’s a delicate process and takes time, but it’s on the horizon. Sign up for our newsletter in the footer to be the first to hear when new Ephemeral colors become available!
You must be 18+ to get an Ephemeral tattoo, regardless of parental consent. Here is the nitty gritty on why: in all 50 states, this law is partially based on the legal principle that a minor cannot enter into a legal contract or otherwise render informed consent for a procedure (like getting a tattoo).
