FAQ
We use square inches to help you choose the right appointment type, but sometimes it’s easier to use comparisons than to bust out a ruler. What everyday objects do you have around you? Let’s start there! (note: if you get to the studio for your appointment and want to scale up or down, that’s not a problem — no stress)
The Subtle
These can be up to 2 sq. inches and are linework only—two inches of space to arrange in any way. Stack them into a large square or line ‘em up for a skinny tattoo. A Sharpie cap is 2 inches. So are two US quarters next to each other. Just smaller than the height of a credit card or a little bit bigger than a AA Battery.
The Standout
These tattoos can be up to 9 sq. inches with light detail. Just think of nine 1 inch blocks to arrange however you’d like. If your design idea is about 3 inches smaller than a US dollar, the Standout is perfect for you! Or a bit bigger than a credit card. Or a long, skinny 1 inch tattoo that’s longer than a piece of paper. Probably smaller than the palm of your hand.
The Statement
The Statement can be up to 25 sq. inches. Picture it this way: fold a normal 8.5x11 inch piece of paper twice to get four little rectangles. Statements allow for the most detail and shading and tend to take the longest to fade. Our general rule is “the more the ink, the slower the fade.” If you’re worried about fade time, we recommend starting with a Subtle or Standout, but the Statement is the best bang for your buck.
Note: Sometimes a tattoo might look larger or smaller on your body depending on your own unique portions and the placement. For example: A smaller sized tattoo might look visually larger on your shoulder than on your thigh. So don’t get too hung up on that 1/2 inch difference if you’re torn between choosing a size since we can adjust this in studio.
We have different tattoo services based on the size and the complexity of the tattoo (more details or more shading). All tattoo services are a flat price and include tax and tip—clear for you, kind for our team.
- The Subtle Ephemeral ($175) are tiny to small tattoos with minimal with linework.
- The Standout Ephemeral ($250) are medium tattoos with detail and light shading.
- The Statement Ephemeral ($450) are large tattoos that often have more shading.
No worries if you’re on the fence about your size or product type. You’ll finalize this in the studio during your consultation before the tattooing begins.
After booking your appointment, we’ll reach out to learn more about your design idea. From there, our artists will prepare a few drawings before your appointment.
On the day of your appointment, the artist will show you their designs, and you’ll have time to tweak/modify them until it’s perfect. We want you to love your Ephemeral!
Flash is the term for a pre-designed, ready-to-wear tattoo. Our Flash options are limited-edition designs created by our in-house artists, available at any of our locations. Because Flash tattoos don’t require custom design work, they’re cheaper and faster!
Our flash collections can be sized up to 2 inches. All you need to do is choose your placement in the studio, and your Ephemeral artist can help determine the appropriate size for the piece.
YES, all Ephemeral tattoos will completely fade away.
Given the physical and chemical nature and degradation rates of components in our ink, it is impossible for an Ephemeral tattoo to be permanent.
Ephemeral tattoos will break down and be naturally removed by any living human being with water present in their body ← you qualify!
All Ephemeral tattoos are currently available in BLACK ink only. Not only is it the most popular tattoo color, it’s preferred by most tattoo artists and allows fine-line work to stand out.
We are developing Ephemeral color ink (hint:🔴). It’s a delicate process and takes time, but it’s on the horizon. Sign up for our newsletter in the footer to be the first to hear when new Ephemeral colors become available!
